I noticed a case of aggression from the female towards two males, while there was no aggression towards the third, as she clearly prefers him. If no solution is found, it will be necessary to separate the female from the others. Try introducing her to a new environment, but closely monitor for any signs of violence. In my case, the situation almost escalated to the point where the female nearly killed one of the males.

Have you ensured adequate space, a balanced male-to-female ratio, multiple feeders and hiding spots, and introduced the quails to a neutral environment? If aggression persists, have you considered isolating the aggressive female permanently?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice on introducing a new female button quail to my male.

Back in early December, I bought a pair of button quail, but unfortunately, the female passed away yesterday. To keep my male company, I purchased a new female and tried to introduce them. At first, everything seemed fine for the first couple of hours, but then the female started bullying the male, and they ended up fighting.

I quickly separated them, and now they’re in the same cage but with a divider (photo attached). The male keep digging in front of her meanwhile the female just wander.

Is there anything I can do to help them bond and eventually become a pair? I’d appreciate any advice or tips on how to handle this situation.

Thanks in advance!

Need a much larger enclosure.

Oh. Not necessarily. A lonely male will mount just about anything that moves, and sometimes things that don't.
Yep… my lonely male would mate with a little green plush bird that was actually a cat toy. He dragged that toy bird everywhere. He did eventually get his own hen when she matured and now they cuddle every night. 🥰 It always takes my newly matured females to get used to older males. Especially if that male has never had the chance to breed something other than a cat toy, he’ll be very eager at first and she’s unlikely to cooperate. I find that once he gets the first successful mating out of his system, he’s able to move on to do other quail things.

Boys!
