Very nice!Made a little progress today. Still have a ways to go. Trim, awnings, hardware cloth over the window, roosting bars, nesting box mats (thinking just some nesting box turf) , automatic coop door (thinking run-chicken) backfill around the run, wood chips in the run, and some plants around any suggestions on plants either for or to avoid? and feeders and water?? Going to do gutters and a couple rain barrels for water, is this a good idea? Am I over looking anything?
So I have built roll away nesting box. Is astroturf from the big box store safe to use to line the bottom ?That's good but the design of those windows prevents them being able to be left open during inclement weather. Will you be installing awnings over them?
I don't use those types of boxes. My birds lay in a more natural nest with thick straw bedding. So I have built roll away nesting box. Is astroturf from the big box store safe to use to line the bottom ?
They don't need food and water overnight. If you can take the food out of the run completely, you'll have less rodents going in there. I don't keep food and water where my chickens roost and they do just fine.So I'm thinking that I only want to put food and water in the run. So the ladies would not have food or water at night until morning when let out in the run. Is this a good practice or should I also have food and water available over night for them?

I have coop cameras. They don't sleep through the night like mammals. They nap off and on and do a lot of preening. They don't eat at night. They sleep, hopefully.
I am nearly always up before the birds come off the roost. You should try it!We don't get up when they do
I'm an early bird myself always up by 4:30 so no issue opening up before sunrise.I have coop cameras. They don't sleep through the night like mammals. They nap off and on and do a lot of preening.

I can't due to decades of working nights. I try though! Hubby is usually the one out there long before I am.I have coop cameras. They don't sleep through the night like mammals. They nap off and on and do a lot of preening.
