New from New England! ☺️

Just popping in to say hello! My name is Kaley! I’m a new duck parent, and chickens are soon to come! I’m stoked to be able to learn from everyone here. Thanks for having me!!
I’m not great at talking about myself so I’ll use the “sample” for now 😂

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Just ducks at the moment! Chickens will be in the coming months!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently I have 2 Pekin ducklings.

(3) What breeds do you have?
My fiance and I have been researching Silkies!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Fresh eggs and the cutest little friends!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I’m a fiber artist! I love to spin yarn, knit, and crochet primarily, but I also do dozens of other crafty things.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My fiance and I are both tattoo artists, and we own our own shop in the Downeast region of Maine! We have been in the area full-time for about two years, and have begun our homesteading journey just this spring. We’ve been excited and planning for this for years, and we’re so excited to be starting our journey.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I discovered BYC a few weeks ago when I really dove into my specific research into my ducks and the chickens I’d like to get. I have already learned so much here and I can’t wait til I have some fun experiences to share with you folks one day as well!

I’ll attach a few photos of my little fluffs to thank everyone who has read this far!
SOOO CUTE. welcome to BYC! i also have 2 pekin ducklings at the moment along with 1 ancona duckling and a broody hen sitting on 5 more duck eggs set to hatch next week! ( plus 13 adult ducks)
well that’s what duck math does…

Welcome & good evening: I was raised in MI and live in SC, and have lived in New England for several decades - I am definitely a New England girl. If you get silkies, you need to be extra cautious about predator protection. We can help you here.

O
Hiya, Kaley, and welcome to BYC!! :frow

Love those ducklings. Oh my gosh so cute!! :love

I'm one of several who raise and breed silkies if you have any questions specific to them

Oh thank you so much!! I definitely will have questions when I get to that point. These little guys have taken all my focus so far and I want to be sure they’re 100% prelared for fall and winter before I take on additional birds, but I am sooooo excited for silkies!

That’s what I’ve been reading a lot of in my research. I am definitely loving the amount of information I’ve found here on BYC so far! 🖤

Oh my goodness your hands are full!! I can’t imagine having that many! 😂 I bet it’s an absolute joy though 😍
