Thanks. The first egg was incredibly good. I ate it.Yup! Totally normal. They can take a little before regularly laying. Same thing with egg size and shape. The first few tend to be small and might be wonky till they figure it out.
Thanks. I think she will be a good layer. First egg was in great shape and medium size. YEA because I saw what they want in the store. With new layers, anything goes. They can be very consistent from the start, very inconsistent and then even out, the eggs could be normal, could be tiny, could be enormous, etc.
I have 2 RIRs that are 22 weeks now. One has laid a couple small brown eggs but yesterday I found a brown egg with no shell... complete but soft. I'm guessing it was an attempt to lay her first egg. My girls don't lay every day.Hi. Is it common for a new layer to lay a nice egg then not the following day? It's been in the 20s here. She free ranges but I don't see any laying around. She used her nesting box yesterday. Been a while since I had new layers. RIR
I have seen rubber eggs many times as that is their first one. This time I didn't see it but I think it's quite normal. Your feed is wonderful. Once they start laying they are the best layers as far as I'm concerned.I have 2 RIRs that are 22 weeks now. I'm in Southern California and the winds have been horrific. I'm about 40 miles east from the Pasadena and Altadena fires and how or if that affects anything I don't know.
I supplement my girls every couple days with BSFL with calcium, corn, limas, green beans, carrots sprinkled with red pepper flakes and chia seeds along with the layers crumbles.
