New here

I’m new here and have had chickens since the beginning of COVID currently I have 7 girls. I also have 4 ducks. They are my problem children. One has tapeworms and am looking desperately for advice on treatments that work. We did the vet(not specialized in fowl but consulted a specialist) with praziquantel tablets. Helped and she gained weight. Retreated 14 days later. Now a couple months later and I’m seeing tapeworm sheddings in her stool. This is my son’s emotional support duck. He takes her to the stream for daily swims. She goes everywhere! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Welcome to BYC it`s a great place!

Welcome to BYC.
The reason why your duck continues to get infected with tapeworms is that tapeworms need a host in order to infect your duck, same for chickens. Your duck is eating tapeworm infected host insects. Keep in mind that not all insects will be tapeworm infected.

You can purchase Equimax equine paste at feed store or Tractor Supply. It's located in the equine section.
Equimax dosage is 0.03ml per pound of weight or 0.15ml given orally for a 5lb duck. This is the same dosage for a 5lb chicken, but should be the same for a duck. Redose again in 10-14 days.

I also recommend dosing your duck early in the morning before feeding the duck. The wormer will be more effective and the worms will be at their weakest. Then wait several hours after dosing, then go ahead and feed your duck. Keep an eye on her feces for the first 30 minutes or so, you might see tapeworm bits and pieces/strands excreted in feces.
