We use horse bedding pellets on the coop floor and in the brooders. There are no odors as they absorb everything and keep it dry.

Thanks for the tip! I've been looking at this option, but not sure the most economical way to buy them? They seem to mostly come in 15kg bags; how far does that go?

Ours come in 40 pound bags for around $8.00. We get them at the farm stores. We put down about 2-3 inches of pellets and it's good for a year, zero maintenance. We clean them out in the spring and put the sawdust/dehydrated poop around trees, in the garden, in the compost bins, etc.

In the brooders, I change them out about every two weeks.
