Welcome! Probably a silly question as I live in Maine where the winters are quite cold...but how do chickens do during the winter in Alaska? What do you have to do to keep them warm enough?

Insulated coops are sufficient for our birds here. A single light bulb with a metal cage around it seems to be adequate to help continue getting eggs into winter. We also use a plastic 'heater' surface under the waterer to prevent water from freezing. Our neighbors' chickens scratch around in their enclosure most days, unless we are having brutal winds or below -15F or so.
