Just completed chicken coop. Have had four 7 week old Black Australorp in temporary pen. They were getting pretty wrestless and so was I. Put in small hen house this morning. It'll take a little time for them to learn to go outside. I still waiting for tell tale signs of roosters. Got one ID'd. Calling him Black Beard. Thinking about vertical watering system.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Congrats on your new flock, Black Australorps are my all time favorite breed! Friendly, docile, healthy, hardy, great layers! I wouldn't keep a flock without them.

Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions about anything, be sure to ask.

Welcome to our community!

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Aren't you going to show off your chicks and new coop to us? We would so love to see them and your new coop! That's so awesome!

We've always used a 5-gallon nipple bucket for 20 or so silkies. It lasts about a month. We put RV freshener in it so it doesn't get the ebbie jeebies. We have a few of the 3 gallon commercial nipple buckets for the breeding/growout pens.
