New Member ~ Hello

I have had TSC experiences in FL, WY and KY (we've moved a lot) and can tell you it's a good idea to know exactly what you are looking for when buying chicks from them. Some of the employees are knowledgeable about chicks and some don't have a clue what they are doing.

If you have your heart set on specific breeds, know up front it's not uncommon for the chicks to be mis-labeled. Know what the breed you want looks like as a chick, don't fully rely on the TSC brooder labels.

As far as getting knowledgeable answers to questions from TSC employees, a few of the things they have told me incorrectly:
1) a hen won't lay any eggs unless there's a rooster in the flock
2) pasty butt is normal and nothing to be concerned about
3) the breed of that duckling is "yellow"
4) don't worry about the empty waterers, they already drank for the day

So buyer beware, educate yourself before purchasing!
Oh my Lard, "empty waterers" are okay.:hmm My smart mouth would've definitely made a not so nice comment to them. Yes, I have a list of 6 different types of chicks that I want; including the estimated number of eggs that they should lay each year, the color of the egg, a picture of the adult chicken, and the size of the egg. But that's a good idea for me to get a picture of what the chick looks like, so that I can bring it with me. I am a very detailed person. I did the same thing when I bred my beagle. I had the blankets, food, dishes, collars, scales, puppy milk, along with bottles and nipples. My husband said that he swore he walked into a veterinarian's office. So I plan on doing the same with the chicks. Money isn't an issue so I want to get everything that I will need and any extras that someone might think that I will need. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it :D

Hello everyone, just an update...we decided to build out coop it is 5 feet long and 6 feet high and 5 feet wide, we will be putting it inside of a pen so that they are protected. While we don't have to rush, I've had to order my baby chicks, since I wasn't having any luck purchasing from a store. Their arrival is last week of July/first week of August. Soo, my husband always wanted ducks, and now we have 2 Pekin ducks; Donald & Daffy :D. Does anyone know about ducks? We got a doghouse and have converted it into a "duck house", it will also be enclosed with a fence so that they will have their own place to roam and have a small pool.
I do have a question, one of the ducks has a protrusion/bump area near the bottom/base of its neck; is this normal? They are going on 2 weeks old.
I've attached a picture, and you can see the duckie on the left is the one I have a question on.
