Hello, I live is the USVI (Virgin Islands)
(1) I’m new to keeping chickens myself! I just got my first chicks recently, but I have extensive experience with birds in general. But I have raised hundreds of birds from eggs. (not a joke).
(2) I have three (chicken) chicks right now. The coop being built can hold more- but I am constantly changing the design (hubby is exhausted by my changes- haha).
(3) Rhode Island Reds (RIR). But Feral birds here- ill save you the details but are every 20 feet- even though I live in the 'countryside' far east end.
(4) I’m still new to raising chickens, but so far, I enjoy watching their curious personalities develop. As someone deeply involved in avian care for decades, I also find it fascinating to observe their natural behaviors up close.
(5) My hobbies revolve around birds—both my own flock and writing about parrot care and advising client around the world. I also garden (pretty intensely on many levels), grow a variety of unique foods- and cook/can even more, experiment with tropical flavors (sometimes in ridiculously spicy hot sauces).
(6) I live in the Virgin Islands and have two free-flying parrots: Dimitri, my Eclectus, and Lucia, my Northern Mealy Amazon. I’m a former veterinarian with a strong passion for avian behavior and nutrition. My Mealy Amazon is a bit of a wild card in the household dynamics and thus far wants to nub them- as they are still in their brooder, and my Eclectus is going through a hormonal phase, so things are... interesting. The addition of chickens is a whole new adventure!
(7) I’ve known about BYC for a while but finally joined because I figured it would be a great resource as I start this new journey with chickens. I also enjoy connecting with other bird enthusiasts!
That kinda sums it up? Oh! and I designed my home, and acres for birds and their sanctuary. I am most interested in coop designs- as I keep running myself in circles.
Thanks for your consideration
