Welcome. Your pictures are adorable. I raised my grandson and homeschooled him. He is in his second year of college now.1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
New to owning ducks and quail. I would like to own chickens one day.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 3 ducks and 12 quails.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We believe we have a Pekin (named Tangerine), Blue Swedish (named Blu) and Mallard duck (named Pebbles). The quail are white coturnix.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The ducks are a lot of fun and we are really enjoying learning their personalities. When they have supervised outdoor time, they stay close to me and will run and sit under my legs or lap when they hear new noises they aren't sure about yet.
I'm excited about having quail eggs and potentially duck eggs.
Our two year old really likes the quail and they're actually pretty chill and will let her hold them and sing to them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like reading, coloring, crafts, and doing yoga and lifting weights.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have two daughters who are 6 years and 2 years old. I am a homemaker and homeschool our girls, so 4H is probably in our near future. We actually bought the quail at our county fair.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Found BYC while doing research about how to care for the ducks and quail.
