Hi I’m Tiffany, new to everything chicken and duck. Currently have 2 Pekin ducklings 5 weeks old and 4 Plymouth Blue chicks almost a week old. Currently trying to find help for one of my ducklings with what seems to be spradle leg or splayed leg, already supplementing water with vita Metz waterfowl boost but read a different niacin supplement may be better as well as a hobble. Personally I was thinking splinting the legs would be more helpful just not sure how to do so. Any advice is welcomed.

Hiya, Tiffany, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I'm new to ducks but have been raising chickens for many years and know the best fix for splayed legs is the binding you speak of. When they are little, it fixes them fast, usually in 2-3 days. I have one right now! We use VetWrap, but here's an article where a bandaid was used. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/splay-leg-and-spraddle-leg-treatment.78240/

We put this on for around 12 hours, take it off for a few minutes so it can stretch its legs and we can see progress, then put it back on and leave it on overnight. The next day, we'll do that again. Sometimes only two bindings are all we've needed, sometimes three. The earlier it's caught, the faster it's fixed.

Hello, and welcome to BYC! Nice to meet you, we're glad to have you here. :frow :welcome
I had a duckling with splayed leg, and I used a band aid to bring the legs together a bit more. I cut a band aid in half, length wise, then made a bit of the ends go around the leg, and stick back onto the band aid. Hope that makes sense! Good luck with your duckling.
