New murmur of starlings

Our house is surrounded by a circle of trees and most of those tree are already occupied by a rookery, but recently we have been noticing a very large murmur of starlings starting to nest in the trees. The only thing that i know of that could have caused this is that there was an owl living on our road, but a couple of weeks ago it was hit by a car. Could this be why they are here? We do not mind them there, merely curious as to why they might come now.

I would guess that now that the owl has been eliminated your place is now a 'safe place'.

Also, there is a pair of buzzards that live not to far away either. We have seen the crows attacking them, so could the starlings be looking for protection from the buzzards in the crows?
