New Muscovy Parents in NC

i was thinking about your
dilemma with them fighting after you hold them . in my experience most duck fighting is about rank - who is the alpha and so on -
And one thing I do sometimes if a duck or a goose or even a chicken is being naughty (a bully) I pick them up and hold them for a while in front of all the others (and they hate it!), but it’s to show them that I am the alpha.
Perhaps when you put them down, you have asserted your “alpha-ness” and now they feel like they have to fight for position
Hello and Welcome to Backyard Chickens. Glad to have you here in this fun loving poultry community.
That makes sense! I did read about how some people hold their ducks to assert dominance.
Welcome to BYC. I liked the answer @Jenbirdee gave related to their fighting. I'm sure you are interfering with the pecking order when you hold them.
It's sad that that's the case. We've been holding them since we got them. Guess it's part of growing up. 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn't stop holding them. As long as they are not doing any real damage to each other it should be fine.
I have a couple of jealous hens. Both are lap sitters. Everytime I put one down the other pecks her. I aquaint it to hair pulling in grandchildren. Its over in seconds.

They were fighting pretty bad. Feathers were ripped out and one even held the other's head underwater when she was trying to escape.
