Hi all,
This is my second time as a member of BYC and my third time with chickens. Many years ago I had Leghorns. Crazy wild birds that preferred to roost in our Pecan trees and every day was an exciting egg hunt for the kids! Then a multi year, career focused interlude with no chickens. About six years ago we got some Rhode Island Reds. Great chickens that gave us more eggs than we could eat year round. We moved and last March got a half dozen Wyandottes because they are supposed to be quiet. We live in a semi-rural area and we are trying to be good neighbors. The hens are 9 months old today. They are quiet and have great personalities that we love, but so far we're lucky if we get one egg a day. I may go back to RIRs if they don't start producing by Spring. We also raise meat rabbits and have a huge garden. We are retired but between the chickens, rabbits, gardening and a hyper Cattle dog/Pyrenees mix, we stay busy.
