Hello from Houston Texas. Thinking about getting a few hens for eggs. Want to do it right and know how to properly feed and care for them. Concerns about extreme heat and increasingly freezing winters. Please welcome this newbie. I already see lots of wisdom for my chicken journey, and look forward to learning a LOT. My HOA said no poultry, but...Texas passed a law allowing up to 6, so residents can raise them in the backyards. Like others who have posted here, I will be checking to make sure I go about things right. Pretty sure I can have 3-4 hens now. Both political parties seem to agree. They are keenly aware that egg prices went up about 138% in a year. After all, who doesn't like a good egg?

Congratulations on being able to have a few hens and on doing your research BEFORE their arrival! There's an almost endless supply of great information on BYC for folks who are just starting out -- and plenty for long-time chicken people, too.

Welcome to BYC -- let us know if you need any help with anything!
