(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Totally new to chickens! I have been doing a lot of online research about chickens and how to take care of them, what they need.. etc. Want to be as prepared as I can be before diving into getting everything needed.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently I do not have any chickens as I am still so new to learning about what all I need to do.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I am looking into getting some Lavender Orpington chickens, as I find they are a really beautiful breed and the research I have done on them so far, seem to be a great fit.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Well the hope of having my own eggs for starters, but I do look forward to having a little extra to fill my time as my children are at ages that I have more spare time to fill in the days with.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I do a lot of crochet and some knitting that I am self teaching myself. Gaming and watching movies.. and a lot of audiobooks!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a 42yr old stay at home mom, married now for 12 years and we have a 22 and 11 year old sons and a 13 year old daughter. Before becoming a stay at home mom with our youngest child, I was a dog groomer for 10 years. I current have two 6yr old cats named Apollo and Luna that are brother/sister that I have raised since they were 4wks old. I have a Papillon dog named Tilly as well who just turned a year old back in March. We have had other pets over the years, lots of fish also. We've lived in NE Oklahoma for the last 11 years come May after my husband retired from the Navy in Virginia.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Through my endless searching for chicken tips and advice lol. Have lurked for a bit and finally decided to join now that my interest has grown from the "eh, this looks interesting" to "hmm, I actually might want to do this".
