Hey y’all.
As the title states, I am indeed new to chickens! Right now, we have 13 chicks about 2 1/2 weeks old. We got a big variety - some Orpington, some Rhode Island reds, some red sex linked, some ameraucanas, and then five totally backyard bred unknowns we got from a friend, lol. I’m excited to see what they grow up to look like! We’re really looking forward to the adventure of raising chickens, hopefully getting some eggs and chicken soup in our future. We have five acres in the country so we’re slowly turning things into a little homestead. Garden beds, fruit tree starts, all the usual suspects. We also have a little miniature family compound going on! Our property has two houses, so my folks live in one and my family in the other, as well as our rescue lab mix that showed up on my dad’s job site. She’s a sweetheart.
