new to showing...what does A.O.V. meen?

looking at list for fair and in front of some breeds it says aov jersey giant for example what does aov stand for??

A.O.V. -
All Other Varieties, or Any Other Variety.

Example -
• Jersey Giant - Black
• Jersey Giant - AOV (You could show White or Splash in this class)

To clarify further, does AOV have to be an actual variety? Or can it be whatever you have that doesn't fit accepted varieties? For example, let's say that this Serama was some other ABA breed. Is he AOV, or just a mess?

The AOV class is for an actual *variety and not a breed.
Let's take the Large Fowl Wyandotte for instance and the show/ fair listing for the Wyandotte class is like this -

• Wyandotte - Silver Laced
• Wyandotte - Gold Laced
• Wyandotte - White
• Wyandotte - Black
• Wyandotte - Blue
• Wyandotte - AOV

Now in the AOV class you could show excepted varieties as in (Buff, Partridge, Silver Penciled, Columbian) BUT also un-excepted varieties like (Splash, Blue Laced Red, Red, or Mottled)


* Variety:
• A sub-division of a breed. Differentiating characteristics including plumage color, comb type, or presence of beard or muffs.
Definition as by American Standard of Perfection

As the AOV's are non-standardized color varieties, if your bird wins AOV, how much farther up in the judging can the bird go? I've heard that they cannot go any farther up - cannot compete against the standardized colors. Is that correct?

I know that AOV is for color variety, Chris, but I don't have any other breeds to give as an example. Put it another way: say I have a columbian Wyandotte with a lot of red mixed in with the white. Could he be shown in AOV, or is he just pet quality?

So the Black, Buff, and Blue could make it to Best of Show...

At our show the Black, Buff and Blue are not as popular as the other varieties so we just put them all in a AOV class..

Thank you for the clarification . . . that really helps. One more question - Can a non-standardized color win anything better than Best AOV? Or would that also depend on what is entered in that particular show?
