Hello all,
This is our first go at raising chickens. So far things have been great. We are starting to recieve nuggets daily but my chickens are laying all over the yard. Any ideas on how we can keep them laying in the nesting boxes instead of us having daily nugget hunts. Any ideas would be great. We have 5 layers and 4 growers. Thanks MFBH

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad to have you here!

You might want to try putting a fake egg or a golf ball or something similar in the nest box to help entice them to lay there. I put an actual egg because I didn't have anything else at the time, but I don't necessarily recommend this because it could get broken. You could also try closing them in until you have most or all of the eggs for the day. At the very least, it will help keep the hunting to a limited area.

What do your nest boxes look like currently? It could also be that they don't like something about the setup.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Excellent advice from @WingsysRoost Definitely keep them inside the coop until mid morning until after they lay so they are more inclined to lay in the boxes. Make sure your nest box bedding is clean and bug free, hens won't lay in dirty boxes.

Good luck with your flock!
