Hello. I am a new to raising chics and in need of expert advice from the community. I incubated 12 eggs and they recently hatched. They are so cute and fluffy. I housed them in a brooder with a heat lamp and also added an external heat lamp above the brooder for additional heat. My journey getting here was not easy. So, I hope to gain valuable lessons to ensure my babies grow up healthy. Look forward to reading helpful and valuable advice. My family lives in north central Florida. This cold weather is very concerning given the birth of my babies. I definitely will need valuable advice to ensure the chics are nursed correctly. Look forward to helpful and constructive advice.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

That's actually not good. Remove the external heat lamp and make sure the one that is there only heats one small warming zone of the brooder. The chicks need huge amounts of fresh air. If you smell poopy brooder, it's way past needing to be cleaned.
The temperature away from the warming zone should be as close to ambient temperatures as possible. It is perfectly fine for those temps to be as low as in the 20s. I've raised (and broody hens have raised) chicks in conditions where night time temps dipped to the mid-20s here and the chicks thrived with just a brooder plate with a towel thrown over it or their mother to get back under for a warm up.
