Poor sizing, causes bullying and feather picking. and unhappy chickens. I report this, by bad experience when I was new to chickens.

Good morning, and welcome to BYC. 4 sq ft/bird is an absolute minimum. Even with that during the winter when they may be confined to their coop problems will most likely arise.

I'm new to this, my wife and 3 kids are excited to raise 12 baby chicks as pets / egg layers. We're in Ohio and looking forward to learning and enjoying this.

The birds do grow fast for the first few months. I love to watch them go through their different growing phases. I have eggs in my incubator due to hatch on Tuesday. I hatch out chicks every year. Maybe one day a few years from now you may too. Again good luck and have fun...
