Hello. I incubated some Perkin ducks and they hatched Friday thru to Saturday. Today is Monday and the last one is still struggling to walk. Seems to be easily startled and will not get water and food on his own that I have seen. I have put him in a seperate container and keep an eye on him. I work from home so he is actually in a blanket wrapped up on my lap. I put him by the water to drink and he does but not alot. I am afraid he is not going to make it. How long before he should be steady on his feet? He was one of the last ones to hatch. The others after him passed. I have 12 that made it and I put him in with the others but they just run over him or peck at him. What is a normal time frame for walking? Thank you

Hi, I'm going to move your post over to the Duck forum...someone there should be able to answer your questions.

Good luck!

Buy Pedialyte, preferably flavorless. Use that not plain water.

Dip the tip of your little finger in the Pedialyte and then in duck starter crumbles and coax it to eat from the tip of your finger. Do this frequently ( every 10-15 .inutes) until it is eating freely.

If you have nutritional yeast or can buy it quickly, add one tablespoon per cup of starter crumbles. I have resuscitated a 2 day old duckling that was cold, not eating and lying listless, using the above. Glad you are working at home and can do this. Feed it every 2-3 hours overnight to be sure it is getting enough nutritional the first night.

Mine is now a 15 lb muscovy drake that follows me round the back garden and bites me when he wants petting

Good luck. Let us know how you get on
