Hello!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Well, these will be our first at our home, but my pops had a flock when I was a kid (vaguely remember caretaking from umpteen years ago). Ours are expected in late March.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? None here yet (just prep done so far!!), but we’re planning just a small backyard flock of 4.
(3) What breeds do you have? The plan is Easter Eggers and Buff Orpingtons at present if all goes as expected!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Eggs are great of course haha, but we really just love animals of all sorts and the feeling of independence of raising them at home! It seems like another adventure we can tackle together and one we’ve been discussing for a few years now.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? We are avid gardeners, readers, video and board gamers, and I also love crafting (though finishing a crochet or felting project is a different story).
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. It’s just my partner and I and our senior rescue kitty (a bit too old and arthritic for any bird hijinks). We like to volunteer our time with area animal rescues when we can.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Our friend referred us!! Her family keeps a home flock and she said this was THE place to go for info on getting started and questions on raising chickens at home.
