I have been reading posts on backyard chickens for the last year and just finally joined.
My name is Karen (not THAT Karen) and I live on the east coast of central Florida in Malabar.
We started with 6 chicks March 1st, 2024 and I now have 2 roosters, 25 hens, 2-8 week old pullets and a 3-week old pullet. The 8-week old pullets were brooded naturally and the 3-week old is one of 10 successfully incubated. I have 15 viable eggs on day 13 in the incubator.
I decided to incubate a few due to the chick shortage in the area.
I have a gorgeous New Hampshire Red Rooster and a Sapphire Splash Rooster. My hens: 5 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Sapphire Gems, Buckeye, 2 Buff Orpingtons, Buff Cochin, Chantecler, Cinnamon Queen, 2 Black Sex Links, 4 Brown Leghorns, 2 brown-red Ameraucaunas, and 2 white Ameraucaunas.
