Niacin deficiency?

For the pool area if you have a dog XS pen or can find one cheap this is what I use to keep mine from jumping out of the pools. I put it all the way around except where the ramp or wood steps are so they only have one way in and one way out. One of my Muscovy jumped down from the pool years ago and hurt his leg it took a long time to heal where he wasn't limping.
As for pain management I am not sure what else there is but Meloxicam.
My oldest Muscovy who is 121/2 now gets Cosequin daily for arthritis and is doing well on it his limp has gone away, something you might want to consider as Stan gets older. IMG_2235.jpeg

Thank you!! I will block the pool off asap that’s a great idea. Do you have experience with meloxicam for long term use? I hope Stan can make it to 12 years 🙏🏻 just worried about so many things now

Just an update- since November Stan got better and then way worse. He had a few good weeks and then his right leg swelled and no antibiotics fixed it. He had a joint tap which grew nothing and perplexed everyone. He lost a bunch of feathers and weight- from 9 lbs to 6.5-7. I sought a second opinion which gleaned the same perplexed outlook- we did give him liquid doxycycline for about a month and it seemed to help with the swelling initially but then kind of stalled at that point- he didn’t get better or worse. But he was eating and moving more. We decided to stop the doxycycline and see what happened. In that time, I did a couple things- moved the ducks to their own enclosure (sand substrate), and separated him from our other drake (within view). When stopping the doxy I added cosequin with msm. He also gets meloxicam and tramadol for inflammation and pain. We take him day by day, but I’m surprised at how much the swelling has reduced. I don’t know if it’s the cosequin, change of environment, or all of the above. But I’m thankful for each good day! I do hope that with his next molt his feathers grow back…

I was so dreading reading you post. I was thinking you had lost Stan, I am so happy to hear he has improved I was thinking the worst. Bless your heart for sticking with him and getting him to where he is now. I hope you see him improve even more.

Thank you! I realize after re-reading, the update looked like it had a bleak outcome. And to be honest for a bit I thought it would. I know that we will lose him one day, but I’m glad it’s not today and I hope that I can continue to do whatever I can to support him in this life. He’s so worth it.
