Hi all,
I have just joined this amazing helpful community, after having so many questions as a noob chicken owner, for example, is my Erina actually and Eric? What the heck is that in the poop? And, Can I introduce my dogs to my chickens? If so how?
I found that this website had the most realistic and honest advice and the real life experiences are far more helpful to me than anything I found!
I am a new Chicken Mum, admittedly I first wanted chickens for the practical factor as I like to try and live as sustainably as possible, but then I absolutely fell head over heels for my two girls!
As my chicken venture started out as a system for putting scraps in and getting eggs to pop out, I bought an Isa Brown and an Australorp, or as we know them Boudicca the Brave and Erina the shy.
As a person who suffers Anxiety and Depression, (and an advocate for mental health) I had no idea that having chickens in my life would be one of the most therapeutic things that I could do for myself! In the past two months of having these girls in my life I have enjoyed a morning breakfast and tea with them clucking about my feet and bringing me back to earth.
I not only am I a Mum of two chickens, but my other pairs of lovables include, Two teen Boys and Two big Doggos. Amazingly enough my dogs have learned to live in harmony with the girls and the four of them prove that we can all live in peace... EVEN at dinner time, and that is the answer to the above mentioned question.
I also am lucky enough to have a lovely Partner who realised my sustainable dreams by getting me my girls as a Christmas present and does all the chook jobs that I don't like so much, like wing clipping, or fence building!

Welcome Ainsley88 ! I wish that 50 years ago we had a resource like this! You have come to a place where you can find a lot of experiences learned, from people who want to share their care for raising chickens! New Chicken "farmers" can sometimes teach us older ones a few things too. I love Australorps (my Dad's favorite)! Great layers and so gentle and easy to manage, usually! Wishing you continued success!
