North Carolina

Thanks for the kind words.

The rest of my chickens did well today and at least the main danger has passed now. I also know that when it is this cold, all 17 chickens will insist on cramming into the coop designed for 6-8 chickens rather than splitting up into the other coops as well.

It was such a shame, the hen who froze was the only survivor from the hatch I had last March when I lost power on day 18 for four days. She laid some very large eggs, too.

Speaking of eggs, from 16 hens, I got 9 eggs today so I didn't think that was bad at all for such a cold day.

Everyone stay warm tonight, get ready for some warmer weather this weekend.

Yay! Today is the day! 16 roosters and eight rabbits get delivered today. The remaining five cockerels in the bachelor pad will get split up. Three will go to someone else for freezer camp, and the remaining two will move in with the pullets temporarily. One of them will be leaving soon, too. But that will mean that I will have one fewer pen to care for right now. Woohoo! It's the little things!
