not impressed by the LG - need advice

Will you stop by this thread and tell us how it goes each time? I hope it goes as well as this! How old are these eggs when you start them? Are your next hatches all the same hen/hens? How often are you checking the bator and/or adjusting something? I check twice a day and adjust rarely. I did just put the plugs in as you mentioned to bring the humidity up but now I have to check temp every hour and I worry about ventilation.

so far I'm at 3/5 which i find very successful for my first time.

Yep as you get better with the tricks for your LG you'll find it works fairly well. At least for me I feel like they work fairly well, and you can't beat the price. Of course it would be nice to have a more automated unit that is less picky about its conditions. Hopefully you'll get one or two more from this hatch.

Well the first one died hours after it hatched and the last one that has hatched is pretty weak, won't stand up and hasn't dries at all, hoping it makes it. No sign from the other 2. I have 24 more that went into lockdown yesterday

I had an even harder time getting the humidity up the second set. i had nearly 90% surface area of water inside of the incubator and my humidity wouldn't raise above 40 and the temp dropped to 90 and wouldn't raise for hours. Finally, around 5 am (after going and spritzing the eggs every hour) the temp raised above 97 degrees. I hope they lived past that...

Well I am happy to report that when I got home after surviving breaking dawn 2 we had 5 hatched. They have continued ever since, all day yesterday and 3 more this morning. I think I am up to 17/24. That is 70%. much better with the cheat sheet!

I hear it is much better to have a cool spell than even a short heat spike. Are we not allowed to edit our posts? couldn't find it......
