November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

Talked to the silkie breeder I mentioned the other day. Going to out to check out and hopefully pick up 3 white silkie chicks tomorrow. She purchased her parent stock from BYC, so hopefully some good baby silkies are in my future! Also hope to buy a dozen white silkie eggs when this hatch is complete. The only issue is, she doesn't incubate, only lets her broody hens collect and hatch as they please. Since she hasn't hatched before, she is getting advice from a neighbor about selling her eggs. She said he neighbor ALWAYS puts all of her eggs in the fridge, then takes out the number she needs and allows them to get to room temp then sets them. I'm going to try to talk her into NOT putting mine in the fridge. I know it CAN be done, but I think I've read it really decreases hatch rate. Is that the general rule? Her neighbor also told her that if you incubate at 102 you get all hens then at 90 to get roos.....soooooo....lol.

I'm going to try to kindly guide her with some sound advice in case she decides to hatch herself. If only it were that simply to get all hens....lol

oh know...hopefully she doesn't try it.....if they hatch she'll most likely end up with a lot of deformity!!
with the fridge eggs....it would depend on the setting of the fridge....I have tried it with my own eggs and everyone of them hatched....but I would be very upset if I paid for eggs and found out they had been in the fridge!!!
can't wait for your candling day!!

Me too! I keep saying I am going to wait until day 10 (Wednesday) but I will probably give in on day 7 (Sunday) lol. Too anxious to see how many babies are developing!

I have golden and black. Mostly black, since I have two black Silkies and only one d'Uccle. I might get a couple more from my Delaware though, since three of her eggs FINALLY have some development (her eggs have been infertile for a couple weeks or so).
good luck for that, i hope for u t have many and many new chicks :D
