NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all. I think the weather is messing up my layers. No eggs yesterday. The overcast weather doesn't help. Going to see about growing sprouts or fodder for them. Found some videos on pinter estate that showed how to do it. Pretty easy. They are certainly eating enough! Especially my silkies!

Pretty sure I have a son of legolas. The comb is starting to develop. Keeping my fingers crossed. Little big man has been busy with his girl but has no interest in the other two. Hopefully that will change by spring.

The town meeting on Tuesday was good for us I think. Dh went as I was working. When it came time to talk animals, especially chickens, he said they were still talking when he left an hour later. Everyone wants to have them. I think that unless there is a complaint, nobody is going to come looking. We will be ma king a couple of changes but they needed to be done anyways. Numbers were discussed and it was pointed out that they fluctuate depending on the time of year. We have to wait and see what the final draft of the ordinance will be.

Have a good day everyone!

Hi everyone, I'm from queens, and am new to byc. I have only one accidental, spur of the moment, rescue chicken, but I hope to acquire a few hens in the spring.

Welcome!

Your hen is going to be quite spoiled I think!

I have a possible sick pullet. She is a 7 month white leghorn looks good, acting fine, seems to feel just like her 4 white sisters. Only problem is 3 days in a row she has laid a bloody egg.

any help is appreciated.

Ouch! Is she new to laying?
I have absolutely no idea how to help, sorry! :(
Have you tried posting in the Injuries/Disease section? I hope she'll be okay!

Welcome Devona! Pharm, that sounds hopeful. Chicken Girl, that is pretty bloody. I have had eggs with a little blood every once in a while, but more like a smear or something, and after a bit it wasn't happening any more. I would just check her vent and wash and dry it if it was bloody. Further than that I would be reluctant to go. Maybe keep her in a dimly lit place to rest a bit? Maybe inside? For a few days? Think that would be my plan. It is good you know who it is. Good luck.

Thanks, Tao chick, boskelli, and chicken girl. I had high hopes in the beginning that my son's chicken (my seven year old was the one who brought it home) would be female, but over the last couple of months we've had it, I'm resigned to the fact that it's a male. I haven't heard any crowing yet, but it's probably too young. I'm not supposed to have any roosters

, but I know there's one in the neighborhood. I don't know if the neighbors will tolerate two crowing roosters. Hope mine stays quiet.
