Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

King glanced at the forest where the creature had disappeared, unsure of how to take the situation. “Yeah we can go to the barracks. Redwing and my team can stand guard.” He said, tucking Knight back into the pouch as he poked his head out.
“Great,” said Phoenix, bumping Corvus’ tail with her own. She was starting to get very worried.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can we trust him?
Corvus watched as King tucked a silver dragonet into the pouch around his neck.
What if King was in on it? Was he dangerous?
Whitestar hesitated, glancing around the hallway the same way Austin had.
How many times can I safely use my power? Is there a limit? If there is, how much of it have I used up? What if I already have?
Whitestar took a deep breath, trying to calm his swirling thoughts.
I have to. For now. Hopefully, this will be the last time.
Enchant this door to unlock.
He heard the latch click, glancing over his shoulder again at the narrow hallways of the building.
@Yukiko
A chill ran down Austin's back as he saw Whitestar concentrate hard and then heard the click of a lock. I have to stop forgetting that this dragon has magic.
He pretended to fiddle with the lock with something in his hand and then turned the knob. The door opened and light flooded the dark room behind the door. He entered and left it open for another second to allow Whitestar to enter then he closed the door behind him.
The room was fairly large with empty walls except for one bookshelf and along the wall opposite them were large windows that extended from the floor and up. On the bookshelves were several sections of files and compared to the empty space in the rest of the room, the amount of space taken up by the files was extremely small. Austin made his way over to the files and muttered backwards, "I was gonna say just break the door down but unlocking it with magic works too."
He looked at the files and grabbed one. The date was recent so he opened it and looked inside. On the top was a code: "Dragon V56X34NH2". Below that read: "Common name: Eclipse."
"Whitestar, I think I found her file." He closed it and put it under his arm as he grabbed another file right next to it. It had the same date as Eclipse's file and he read the common name. "Neoma".
"I'm assuming this one is the dragon Blackout is trying to find." He closed the file and paused as he heard voices outside the door. He spun around towards the door and slid both files into his shirt. His eyes darted back and forth looking for a way out. He couldn't find one.
They were trapped. The door burst open and soldiers came flooding in, guns in hand and pointed at Austin, but he'd also drawn the gun on his hip. He had to use everything in him to calm his now racing heart.
"Hands up!" one of the guards barked. "Hands up or we'll shoot." Austin kept his gun pointed at the leader, and instead he took a step back towards the windows. He couldn't figure a way out of this, but he could stall for time. Knowing Whitestar was probably near them, he decided to try and send a message to him. "So, how many are there of you. 5? 10?"
"Too many for you to take out and get out of here alive. We've called in backup as well, so good luck trying to fight your way out, intruder," the guard sneered.
Austin took another small step back towards the window. He hated to do it, but he didn't think he had a choice. He took a glance back and then back towards the guards. "And, how far up are we?"
"Stop asking questions! Surrender now!"
Austin looked around one more time and hoped Whitestar was catching his drift. One more step back.
"We're warning you!"
Austin spun and pulled the trigger and the sound of glass shattering filled the air. Then he spun and started firing his gun at them. Sound of guns firing sounded behind him as he leapt out the window. Pain ignited in his right shoulder and he spun out of control falling. One thought filled his mind.
This is what I get for being helpful.
The window behind Austin erupted in an explosion of ice-like shards as the weapon fire broke out through the room.
Whitestar darted toward the new opening, shielding his face with a wing from the dangerous splinters of glass that showered the room. The deafening sound of weapons firing drowned out the sound of the shards clattering and breaking on the hard ground. Whitestar felt several stinging projectiles bury into his scales before he launched himself out of the jagged opening in the wall, his wings churning the broken air as he struggled to catch his balance.
His eyes darted quickly toward the drop beneath him, immediately picking out the shape of the human falling toward the pavement beneath them.
The Icewing beat his wings back once, launching himself downwards and yanking his wings into his sides, dropping into a perilously fast dive.
The ground got closer.
Whitestar reached out his talons, his claws closing around the human's middle.
The sky seemed to disappear as he plummeted between two of the building. He snapped his wings apart, beating them fiercely, the amount of air and gravity pushing back making the membrane strain and hurt.
Whitestar swooped upward, barely clearing the buildings, his tail grazing the edge of one of the roofs before the air finally opened around them again.
His mind reeled for a moment, still panicked, still searching for his next move.
He angled his wings in the direction of the alley they had started in, flinching slightly when he heard the sound of more wingbeats approaching in the night air.
He dove back between the buildings, dropping Austin carefully onto the pavement before flaring his wings to slow, landing a wings length away further up the alley.
Whitestar reached up and pulled the necklace chain off his neck so Austin could see him, turning back to the human, his eyes glittering with worry.
"Are you okay?"
All Austin could feel was wind and his mind spinning.
Along with his body.
Plummeting through the air, he occasionally caught glimpses of the pavement. It almost seemed like an eternity falling and spinning towards the pavement. Something cold wrapped around his waist and he felt himself ripped from his mad spin. Head still spinning, he glanced at his waist and saw nothing. He seemed to just be flying through the air on his own, but he felt the grip from the dragon's claws and knew it was Whitestar.
Austin shut his eyes as the pavement flew at them, knowing that death was coming. The feeling of falling suddenly swapped to upward motion and Austin opened his eyes again. Whitestar had cleared the fall and they landed. The dragon then came into view and Austin could see the worry in his eyes, "Are you okay?"
"Yes, yes I'm fine," he lied. He brace his arms to push himself up and pain shot through his right arm like lightning. His elbow buckled and he dropped back to the ground with a grunt. He gritted his teeth and slammed his eyes shut as he took a deep breath, waiting for the pain to subside.
After it lessened, he used his left arm to brace himself and stood up on his feet. Forcing himself not to throw up, he took a step towards Whitestar. His teeth were still gritted as he made his way over to Whitestar, hand on the alleyway wall, keeping his balance.
"We have to get back to Alyssia and the others and get out of here. I have the files." He reached up to his vest to feel for the files but felt something warm and wet instead. His heart dropped. Wet, fresh blood covered his shoulder. Dang it. I'll have to deal with this later.
Whitestar reached out a wing to steady the human, his worry only increasing.
I could heal him. But should I? I've used my power so much already.
Another thought pulled at the edges of his mind, one he barely even dared to let in.
Besides, what do I owe to him? He's the one using Alyssia and us. Serves him right.
Whitestar pressed a talon to his head, trying to wrestle with his swirling thoughts. Was that really what he would think? Or had he used his power too much after all? Was it already starting to gnaw away the edges of his conscious?
I can't keep using it. But shouldn't I help Austin? I don't think I want to help him, but isn't it the right thing? After everything he did?
But he helped us get the files. He helped break us in here, and he got hurt doing it. Three moons, why do humans have to be so complicated.
"Let's hurry," Whitestar mumbled, still trying to grapple with his unruly thoughts. He angled his opened wing down for Austin to clamber up.
"The Nightwing's will already be after us, and we have to warn the others."
I'll figure out how bad his injuries are once we get back.
