Anyone else with molt pictures?
Fancy Nancy
Since she is molting I am careful when I pick her up or pat her body.
Look at her little oil gland nub...
She keeps getting more bald...
I had a cute video, but having trouble figuring out how to load it.
I had a video but could not figure out how to down load it.
She likes the shade.
.
In this pic it is hot, you can see the other hens panting, but she is not. This morning it was 56, and I saw her shiver.
Okay- but those weak hearted avert your eyes...NN
When held she feels like a meat bag. She is quite heavy.
Fancy Nancy is very happy. She is not low on the totem pole. She lays a lovely green egg, too! As a baby she was very nak-y in this pic you cannot see, but she had no feathers on her but, and if you see her pics she is all skin, not even pin feathers saying hello. (By the way she is a NN. So not supposed to have as many feathers.)
She has less feathers than I have seen on chicken in the meat dept. lately.
To be clear it is a molt pic of Fancy Nancy and she is one year old.
Fancy Nancy getting her winter coat back.
This is Sweetie who is a Frizzle. I have included her unhappy picture wearing a coat to help her stay warm here in Northern Michigan.
Poor Ms Frizzle! She looked like a naked neck for almost the whole summer Last photo was in June…second two were about 3 weeks ago. She couldn’t roost either as she had no wing feathers for three months! She’s finally thru the molt and looks so pretty again.
One of Beabras sisters decided to drop all her feathers
Id say so lolPoor thing looks like a porcupine!
Holly:
Holly yesterday. Poor girl was shivering so bad I had to put her under a heat lamp.
Non-frizzle
I’ll try to get some more pics of her today. But this is one of my almost 2 year old RIRs. She’s done this two years in a row now.
I assume, even though there haven't been any posts in a while, that the contest is still open for entries? I didn't think I'd have a bird to enter as my usual hard molters went easy on it this year, but then Harley decided to just drop half of her feathers at once this past week. Looks like the competition's pretty stiff this year, but she really gave it her all anyway!
Now I'm just waiting on her sister Washburne to molt... and really hoping she has a lighter molt than Harley considering how soon it'll be frigid here!
This is my poor Kermita, who in the past has always had a soft molt. I feel so bad for her. Pictures are from yesterday and today. Temps are going to drop into the 30's tonight, not sure if I should bring her in. She only has one other flockmate. I thought about wrapping the coop in a blanket or towels so it is not drafty.
This is Lacy (in front of her mom & sister, Cagney) on Aug 4th: Before
.......aaaannnnndddd yesterday:
Today...
Normal moulting time here in SW New Mexico. Daytime temps aren't hitting the 80s this week!
WHOO HOOO!!
Believe it or not, updated pic of Lacy (post #120, 1 Oct) this was last night in her roost.
Her sister Cagney was much less dramatic.
Lacy is looking MUCH happier, Spediote however, has lost his tail. (This was 4 days ago)
And yesterday:
A post broody Cookie
