This is not particularly for winter, but I believe it it provides excellant health benefits for the chickens. My rooster especially LOVES this concoction,

Plain yogurt sprinkled with hemp hearts, flax seeds and a special treat, cooked egg yolks.

The geese try to bully the chickens out of "their" treat (everything is goose centric as far as they are concerned), but since they cannot eat the yogurt, they leave it all to the chickens.

My rooster was feeling poorly for a few weeks early in the winter, or at least it seemed that way. I fed him this for a few days in a row then tapered off. He perked up and seemed himself a few weeks later.

We give them fermented meat bird mash, warmed on the cold days with a handful or tow of rolled oats thrown in to absorb some of the liquid.

We also feed them "scrambled" eggs if someone's trying to make over easy eggs and breaks one when flipping.

And any chicken safe kitchen scraps on hand. Sometimes we buy turnip or other greens specially for the chickens if they're cheap enough.
