FYI sevin has life time egg withdraw:barnie

Yes, because it's banned in birds. Seems a tad extreme but to be safe I use Permethrin.

How can that possibly be....

Found this from Cornell. Published in 1993. Yup it is old.

So much conflicting information!!

Maybe another article is needed for safe products to use on chickens.

When I used it it was after reading tons of posts right here on BYC saying that the poultry dust did not work but the sevin did.

I figured with basically no wait time for my veggies that are often eaten raw how bad could it be?

Many of those birds have made it to my table................

How do your AC do when confined? When I first started my flock I had a SH and almost got an AC. Had to return the SH after 1 week cuz she completely freaked out on a daily basis. She was used to free ranging everyday and dud NOT like being in a run all day. She was a total beast to all the others. But....in her defense I should have gotten a pullet.....sh e was 8 months old

Hi Suzi! They are fine, actually. I originally wanted SH because I read they are more docile and hardy than AC. I got mine at about 6-8 weeks of age and after a month or so of quarantine, they went in their coop/run and were fine. They have gotten fairly mellow since then. I don't let them free range because I have a lot of woods and they are good fliers. They have their own coop/run that they share with my bantam cochin.

They are beautiful birds, but they have that wild aspect in them, like cats. :) Although they seem content in their housing situation, they are quick to perch on the door frame when I open it and I have no doubt that if I wasn't cautious, they would fly out of there in a heartbeat...

I think I'm gonna try another SH but this time I'm going to start out with a young one. Thanks for the info

Good morning. Caught up!!!! :caf

Misty, I truly hope the hubs gets better. I should wish you all to go home, but my wish is for him to get much better, even if that keeps you in the hospital longer. Rather see him stay in and cover all bases, rather than get released too early and possibly relapse.
:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

I am terribly sorry about your chicken loss to mites Cappy. Man, on top of Mareks, you're having a storm of bad luck. :hugs Also, dunno where your gardening thread is, so you can post that gardening link yourself if you'd like! :D

Anasi, x2 what Stacey said.... I look forward to you virtual breakfasts for us! I wish we could catch up on your flock!

RJ, how's the new job? Please, take a few minutes out of your day to join us... we miss you!

It would also be nice to hear from @Parront and @KikisGirls as well. Missin y'all!!!

Nothing much going on here. Got up, made a pot of oatmeal, a pot of rice, a pot of barley.
