Oh. My.

I bought 4 TSC ducks at the same time I had my 55 RIR/Leghorns delievered.

The 4 ducks produce as much or more waste then the chickens (I had to move them to a grow out pen in my brooder week 2, goodness they are 10x the size of the chick same age). And the waste is MUCH more liquidy, which is a real mess. Good thing the brooder boxes are easy to clean!

See if you can figure out their names:

Cheeze'N'
Ritz
Saltine
Peanut Butta

Hypno-consider yourself lucky, lol! Maybe with just one, he doesn't "play" in his water as much? I waited about 1 week, if I remember correctly, to take the paper towels off the shavings.

Equibling, yay, another Brahma owner! I don't hear alot about my beloved breed here,

well, except for Gritsar,

That's a good idea, the second coop. I have to figure out what I'm doing, as I have my already established flock, then I have the 5 chicks that are ready to go outside, then the ducks, then the two week old chicks. It's going to be tricky trying to figure out who's going where, and with who, lol!

Ozark, lol, I can imagine!

James, isn't that the truth! Cute names by the way

I only have one of mine named yet...having a heck of a time figuring names out!

And trust me, about two weeks from now you'll be sick and tired of hearing about brahmas. Every time I "see" you I'll be pulling out my virtual baby album! It's all about the brahmas baby!

away!

I broke down today and bought two Kacki Campbell ducklings, they are so cute. Have them in with the chicks right now, in the kitchen on the counter. Have lots of room for them on the counter and a hook to hold the light. It's only til this weekend when I get a chance to build them a brooder.

I would like to have some brahmas, I think they are cool looking.

I named my Drakes Huey, (Khaki Campbell) the Rouens, Dewey and Louie (Original, I know) and the girls Daisy and Daphne for the Rouens and Deirdre for the Khaki

Messy???!!! Nah! We drained the kiddie pool since it kept freezing up then thawing in the cold weather and dumped out a whole bunch of eggs. This was with 2 ducks. Their pen was getting extra nasty but they trashed the chicken house last time I let them in.

Sadly, we lost one on Monday, and I tell you, I think I can handle 1 better than 2, as much as I miss Lucy.

No, never again! (Will I give into their cuteness)

You will definately want to seperate them as soon as you can. I have three and seperated them from my chicks after 2 weeks. First, they grow so much faster than the chicks and I had bantam chicks. And they kept the brooder messy. I moved my three out of the brooder and they are living in the barn with my Hen who thinks she is their mom. I have plastic down inside 3 pallets (make shift walls). That area is always wet (food and water there) and I clean it out every few days. Then they can go out into the barn and have an area with hay that is nice and dry for sleeping and playing. But, I love them, absolutely love them. They were 4 weeks this past Wednesday and they are just starting to get their feathers. I have an area planned that will be just for them.

Here they are at 2 weeks

Here they are at 3 weeks with their adoptive mom, Lady.

Have fun with the ducklings!

They just suck you in, don't they? We were at the feed store the other day, and they had (literally) just gotten ducklings in that morning. My boys were asking for more!

I'm like, "Um, no-we have 5 at home, waiting for you!" They were cute though...I really don't remember my ducklings being that small, and they are only 3 weeks old!

Yes, you must try some Brahmas...once you do, you will never go back

Schmoo-can you put them somewhere where you can close a door? I had to do that, because mine will get going every once in awhile. Though it's usually because they need something. Oh, do you only have one? I've heard ducklings get very lonely, and you should always have at least two. Good luck!

MoonWalker, cute names! I think I've decided on names for mine finally. Was lying in bed one night, and it just came to me-very odd! I have Rose, Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia, and Sal. Can you guess where those names came from?

Dragon, I feel your pain

TBC, yep mine are seperated now...at about 3 weeks, and yeah it should have been done sooner, lol! I look at it this way-my Polish and D'uccles are pretty hardy now, I think. What cuties you have; just love seeing them splashing around in the water!
