***OKIES in the BYC III ***

A few pics from today.

Coral these are the eggs you gave me for the broody mom.

This little pullet is one of my absolute favorites she hasn't started laying yet but her eggs will definitely be set.

!

Coral this is one of the boys you gave me as company for my lonely, I call him Skitzo, he is one skitzy chicken.
Love the beard and the barred bird with the poofy hairdue

Lethal shotgun with the heavier shot preferred.
Less Than Lethal (LTL) full auto battery operated airsoft
Both are time consuming
Knee high netting and stuff for them chickens to duck under if they see them coming.
It's tough cause predator birds are "protected" so first strike killing is "frowned upon in this establishment" lol and chicken well tastes like chicken
iI caught a owl (in the middle of the day) just starting a dive. I didn't kill him but he left in a hurry. I've been keeping a shotgun in the shop and just happened to be out there. I've lost cats, a jack Russell terrier, 2 geese and I've lost count of the chickens and turkeys. Sometimes I think they sit out there watching and saying one for you and three for me. I cut down on the four legged critters with an electric fence. The birds are another matter. The main run is open at the top but actually well covered by a pecan. One of the boys came in and said there was a hawk on the feeder inside the run under that heavy cover. I guess I run the local raptor buffet.

The tufted chick probably has a Crested Cream Legbar father. The brown chick probably has a Cream Brabanter father. Skitzo looks like a Creole Penedesenca.

I agree that's a good philosophy in general. By keeping the healthiest birds you are increasing the genetic strength of your flocks. I do say if a bird is injured and I think it has a good chance of recovery I will keep trying as long as appetite is good and the bird hasn't given up. Once it gives up, I tend to put it down rather than drag out its decline. :(

They certainly heal from injury a lot faster and more often than from illness. I am amazed how fast open wounds close up.

How tall are you making them? What are your dimensions?
We made a two- tiered circular bed out of ends of tinhorns for a friend years ago. The layers were 14 inches high and we used cinder blocks for steps and patio blocks for a pathway to the center layer. A 12 foot diameter ring with a 4 foot ring

I think they will be quite deep because the narrowest tin is 24". They will be placed on a slope and DH will use the snow blade on his 4-wheeler to dig into the high side of the slope so one side before we place the frames. I have plenty of compost to fill them. Just need a strong back to get it in to the frames.

One thought on the hawks is like what Matt said. Put a truck camper shell in the middle of where they run. If the roo see's it and gives the alert they can run under it. Or a piece of plywood on 4 blocks.

Hi everyone. Hope y'all are doing well. I've been kinda sad cause I lost my 2 ducks the day of the shawnee show. I came home an hour and 15 minutes after dark and I forgot to lock the ducks inside their house before I left and I lost them both. I messed up pretty bad and I feel terrible about it

I have these 2 white guineas that I need to get rid of. Pretty sure they're both boys. I'm either gonna sell 'em or butcher them. If anyone is interested you can send me a message. If not I guess I'll butcher them this coming weekend. It'll be my first time actually doing it alone. Hopefully I can get 'er done if nobody wants 'em. EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm near Holdenville, but willing to travel as far as Seminole.

So sorry about your ducks... Beautiful male Guineas. Surely someone will want them.
