I'm curious what you guys think! I got this from a friend who had no idea what they had and if they were laying.

I'm thinking Dolly is a Leghorn? Do you guys agree? If not what do you think she might be? I've had her for 3 months now and she has yet to lay an egg. Since her comb is not a bright red, and in my opinion is falling over a little, does this mean she is probably an older hen?

How do I know if she's done laying?

Thanks in advance everyone! I always love that I can ask questions here! :)

She won't lay until she feels safe.

I guess I don't know what else to do to make her feel safe :(. I've even put her into a different coop with some younger chicks so she wouldn't be picked on or anything. After 3 months I would have thought she'd lay at least 1 egg by now. Do you have any suggestions?

It takes time, chickens hate change.
she also might have gone into a mini molt.

So I can't even believe I'm writing this, but she ACTUALLY laid her FIRST EGG for me when I just checked 😁😁.

Bad news is the younger chicks (9-10 weeks old) were pecking at it and broke it open! 😭

So what on Earth do I do about that? She's in with 3 young chicks and her

Is she eating chicken feed with them? I'd supply some oyster shell for her. Congrats

I literally cannot believe I posted about this this morning and now I have an egg!! I'm beyond ecstatic! And I've been trying to make it to the store for 2 days now to try some oyster shells! I'm for sure going tonight.

And I think I'm going to get some fake eggs to set in the laying boxes. Then maybe the baby chicks won't be so curious about the egg?
