I have 1 very elderly chicken. My last 1 of 18. I will not be buying more. My question is: would it be crazy to ask if someone would “lend” me a chicken on a temporary basis to keep my girl company and then return their chicken OR maybe come to our coop for playdates, so to speak.

Most people wouldn't do that due to biosecurity concerns (don't want to potentially transfer germs to their flock or to your hen) :).
 
I wouldn't, simply because doing so may introduce lice, mites or illness to your old gal or your coop. What you might do, if you think she's lonely, is donate her to another chicken owner. After a period of quarantine she might be able to live out her days in company and comfort.
