One of my chickens ran into the woods!

3 days ago one of our chickens ran into the woods. she's new to us and didn't make it one overnight before hopping the fence so she has no knowledge of this being her home. I've been seeing her in the woods by my neighbors but can't get within 30-50 feet of her. I've tried looking for her at night but, it's the woods. I have no idea which tree or bush and there are lots of prickers. I tried to catch her with food and a box trap, but no luck so far. I am looking to borrow a thermal scope from someone to see if i can find her while roosting. Any advice welcome!

Do you have a wire dog crate where you could place a couple of other chickens out there in case the chicken might come near? Put some scratch or feed and water out to tempt her. They roost at night on limbs, so you might try looking at night with a flashlight. Whenever I put a new chicken into a coop, I make sure to place them where they will live for 7 days, so they know where they live, and only then let them out. So sorry that this happened, and hope you find it.

I did put feed and water out there today, tried with feed yesterday. the woods are a bit big back here, so hard to tell where she's sleeping! lots of trees and pricker bushes. She was in the fenced in yard day one but of course hopped over as i was trying to coax her back into the coop area....

I can try coaxing her with other chickens! and maybe then the box method would work...
