Did the vet give a suggested timeline when to switch to triple antibiotic ointment?

No, he didn’t provide a timeline then, and we haven’t been able to get a hold of him

Maybe we should just keep up with the sugardine until after our trip? It seems to protect the wound pretty well, so hopefully it will mostly stay on the few days we’re gone.
