I bought this chick labeled as an "Onyx Olive Egger" from a farm store in Colorado. She has white black washed legs with two or three feathers on a couple of her toes. Single comb that is black in color so far. Plumage is coming in mostly black with faint flecks of copper brown here and there. And just today I noticed she's developed a little crest!

Does anyone know what hatchery makes the onyx olive egger? I have never heard of them before and can't find them on Google. Do I dare hope that she's CCL mixed with French black copper marans? (That would be a really great mix) Or can you think of any other mixes that might make these traits?

Thanks!

Hoover's sells Mystic Onyx chicken and is the most usual source of chicks for stores. So I'd assume it is them. They don't always list all of the varieties they sell at stores on their website.

I wondered about that because of the name. She has 4 toes, not 5. And her skin is very white, not black. But mystic onyx can have a little crest like hers. Supposing she IS half mystic onyx, and supposing she really is an olive egger, what blue egg breed would explain the leg feathering?

One on the right, all black, is a CCL/BCM cross, so F1OE, and the one on the left is her chick, a cockerel, daddy is one of my F1 OE’s. I bought right pullet from a private breeder. It will be interesting to see what color eggs yours ends up laying. The hatcheries and some breeders come up with interesting names for different hybrids. My pullet offspring that has a crest is black just like momma, but they have a different comb. Feathered legs often come from the Marans gene.

Hi! I see Ideal has these on their lineup. Any reviews for these from the folks that have them? What mix are they? How's the egg color?

Ok so just in case anyone is curious... Ideals new Olive Eggers are called "Mystic Olive Eggers." I got a few. I don't have Ideal's catalog but from what I understand, they're fibro and are supposed to lay a darker shade of Olive.

If anyone has the catalog, I'd love to know what they're description is! I'm curious what the mix is...
