We are in the middle of a hatch of Opal legbars! The breeder had a sneaky rooster get in the pen for a day and we may have some aliens in our hatch! I think they are splash isbar x Opal or cream crested legbar mixed. I think I have two female opals and 2 male opals and the little dark one is likely the mixed chick and I’m not sure I can even take a guess on gender for it. What do you all think? There are still 3 more eggs to hatch. I am hoping for at least 1 Opal hen! I plan to keep her and the breeder will take back the rest of the females. The males will be rehomed to farms.

We ended up with 6 little chicks. I’ve convinced myself that we have 3 female opals, 2 male opals and our little alien is also female. I hope anyways! They have been integrated into the main flock and they are doing quite well! I think the females are getting their wing and tail feathers faster than the males. I know this only holds true for some breeds but I’m not sure if opals fall into that category. If you have any insight as to my predictions please reply!
