Hello all. I got 5 day old chicks last week from a lady who mail orders them. I wanted half a dozen Ameraucanas but ended up with 2 Ameraucanas, 1 barred rock, and 2 others that were supposed to be silver laced Wyandottes. I've never had any Wyandottes, so I am not sure what they typically look like as chicks, I just took the chicks she gave me. Anyway, they are starting to feather in a bit and I'm not sure they are shaping up to be what they were supposed to be. They seem to have more brown tones than any other on them. Does anyone who is familiar with what a typical silver laced baby should look like have an opinion? Thanks so much!

In the photo below, the two seem much more brown than the barred rock chick in the middle.

THEY ARE SO CUTE!

Thank you!

Silver laced wyandottes develop their silver-laced feathers when they are a little older.
Well I know that their final adult coloring and markings take awhile to get to but my concern was that they seem more brown than I would have thought. I'm hoping I wasn't given the variety of laced wings that are a red/brown with black. I just don't like brown chickens.... I'm sure it's silly but I just don't care for them, never have.

X3 on sourland, look exactly like the ones at the store.

I have a gold laced one and she's incredibly docile, she sits on our lap or beside us. Although she was rather flighty and less friendly as a chick, which I've heard to be a bit common of the breed. For lack of a better term we tamed it out of her and being a tad younger than the others and by extension lower on the pecking order, helped round out her edges a bit as well. I would recommend some extra handling on them just because of the breed's tendencies and this anecdote. The lacing takes a while to work out the kinks but it's stunning afterward

Her lacing is still developing too, I just remember her feather looking almost striped to the point I questioned if she was the right breed. Best of luck brooding!

Stunning! I think laced chickens are so fancy. Lol. I want a GLW in my next batch in a couple years.
