Hi y'all.
Looking for opinions here.
I have two small to medium cats. The oldest, Boo, weighs around 10lbs and around 17" from neck to tail, when stretched out. Boo spends around 40% of her time indoors.
June is around 11 months old, weighs 8.5lbs, and is inside 99.9% of the time. She is about 15 to 16" stretched out.

They have destroyed their 2 year old cat tree. It has been re-upholstered, but is somewhat wobbly. (The posts are basically just cardboard and plastic.)
I'm looking to buy something better quality, with a wood frame, for a narrow space.

I wanted cat shelves, but our walls are knotty pine plank, and we don't want a lot of holes in them.
I considered building, but plywood is extremely expensive here, and with other materials; 2x4s, carpet, etc. I'm sure I'd spend way more on a build.

These are my two favorites. They are made by New Cat Condos. Both have wood posts and shelves. Both are around $250:

My question is:
Do you think a cat would prefer flat shelves or the curved shelves?
Is there enough space between shelves for these girls to climb down?

The reviews for these are better than the other cat trees I've priced. I like that the shelves are supported by two or three posts, rather than long narrow ones.
I know the carpet isn't the best, but my daughter does upholstery, and so we can replace it as needed.

I think probably the curved. My cats rarely use the flat shelves. They both seem to prefer something with edges.
I've been really wanting to make my own cat tree! I want to use an actual manzanita tree as the base
Thank you for the opinion. I think, June in particular, prefers curved shelves and cubbies.
I'd love to see your tree when/if you build one!

I have 4 cats. On accident, but that's another story! They drive me BONKERS.
Aubrey is a cat I inherited from my mom who couldn't take him with her to her new retirement community. He's 16 years old and weighs 31 lbs. So we had to get something substantial. We got them this and reinforced the heck out of it:

We added hanging toys, a cat bed, and a cardboard scratching thing (they love cardboard).
