Hello, I'm new to BYC but not new to chickens. I've had a small flock of chickens for the past 7 years -- just enough to give me enough eggs to eat and back with, and to share with my sister. I brought my chickens from California to Oregon in 2021. I still have a few of my original flock but have added chicks from Oregon. Right now I have 11 chickens (10 hens and one very nice rooster named "Peeps"). As my hens have gotten older egg production has declined. I'm looking to add 3-4 chicks this season. My flock is diverse and includes and bantam silky hen who lays smaller eggs but lays them every other day.
I'm building a new coop where I can add an bigger run for the flock as I don't free range my chickens due to hawks, the occasional eagle, neighbor's out door cats and coyotes. I also have chicken tunnels that I move around like branches off the chicken run to give flock more space to explore. The tunnels are very easy to move around.
I also have three horses, 10 Shetland Sheep, two Nigerian Dwarf goats (I will be adding two doe goats for milking), two cats and 4 dogs, one of which is the goofiest Livestock Guardian Dog (LGD) ever.
I look forward to discussing topics with other members of BYC.
Linda
