Here I was thinking I was special for the fact that I am building a swing set for the boys, I guess not. That is absolutely beautiful!

As to what type of tree, it is built on a huge old Dutch Elm tree. It fell sick to dutch elm disease at some point before we ever moved in, & was on the failing side ( about 12 yrs ago), but we have just babied it & nursed it back to health. Every year it seems to do a little better.

When we first moved in, there was something along the lines of a ~tree-board~, or maybe you could call it a ~tree-raft~. Just a slab of wood on some 2x6's. But the board had done it's job, because as the tree grew, it worked its way around the tree-raft, and became very much like an open hand, palm side up. As a result, Wood Genius was able to anchor on to those original four 2x6's, and then added more supports as well. There is about 80 sq ft in there, a little more if you add in the loft and the tiny little deck/porch.

Right now, we are working on finishing touches inside. The kids want some book shelves and cubbies up there, and Wood Genius has devised some nice play-cabinetry for the little kitchen-ette area. There are some benches and a table that make into another sleeping area, as well as the loft. You can fit 2 or 3 kids up in the loft, and about 5 kids on the table/bench bed. Since it's insulated, and has doors ( a little dutch door at the stairs, either 1/2 will open independantly, & double french doors leading out to the porch/deck), & plexi-glassed & screened windows, the kids love to have camp-outs in the tree-house year-round.
I promise I will put up some pics of the inside now, and as it progresses, if you all would like that.

What will really be fun will be incorporating the chicken coop into the backyard. After reading through this awesome thread (https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=46453&p=1 ), Wood Genius was inspired to greater heights of coop-building fun, and I can't wait to see what he comes up with. {:>)=
