Owl Attack, Neck is Raw (Bloody Pics Warning)

You don't want to wrap with anything thats going to stick or dry to the wound, those burn second skin things will probably be perfect. You might have to make do for the night with something else, I'm not sure what - perhaps a ton of neosporin (without painkiller) and a loose wrapped bandage. Or even till someone else can chime in with better info.

Keep her in a darkened room or cage, I wouldn't use shavings or anything as bedding, perhaps some soft towels or sheets..

Yes, i agree, I should have written that, but I figured most people have common sence....

They have those non stick bandage squares... (my friend saved a full grown goose, that had its chest ripped open... by keeping it wrapped).

You DO want to let it air out after the neosporin soaks in and helps it heal a bit...

Thank you everyone for your well wishes for my Phyllis........I get sick looking at the pics

...............I'll try to find a vet tomorrow, I don't know how successful I will be. The second skin sounds like a good idea............there is no skin at all to try to stitch or cover the raw tissue. I have some gauze but I was afraid it would really stick and hurt to take off. I'll get to the drugstore to see what I can find to wrap it up.
I wondered about the heat farmin' chick...........I think I will turn it down. I wanted her to dry off after I cleaned her.......I was afraid to take a towel to the wound. Ducks must be tough...........she didn't flinch at all when I cleaned her or applied the ointment.........I was cringing the whole time tho.

I really appreciate all your responses, I am still in kind of shock.

I tend to panic when stuff like this happens to me, and all common sense flies out the window.

To the OP - if you don't have anything available, for tonight best just leave it open and not wrapped up - that wound is going to seep and get sticky and messy, if you bandage/wrap you'll need to change it often as well, at least for the first few days.

Poor girl........... I'm going to be following the thread to make sure she pulls through!

I found where he got in, he must have really pounded or pulled. He was a BIG bird. I was afraid to get in the pen with him........I opened a door and cut the wire out that I keep across the bottom to keep the birds in and dogs out, and hosed him for about an hour until he found the door. He was one wet, ticked off owl. I hope he never ever gets back in. I don't know if owls learn lessons.........I doubt it, but he had to walk away, he was too wet to fly, so maybe he will remember that?
I thought the chicken wire was super secure.........but then I know not to understimate any animal who wants in or out of something. I just hope my little girl makes it.

OMG!!! Thats scary!!! I doubt he'll remember it. If its a hungry owl, itll come back. I managed to shoo one off of my property a few times, but he always came back. Not sure where the heck he ended up!
I sure hope Phyllis is a fighter!!!! Come on Phyllis!

We had the same thing happen to a hen! She survived, we just kept her gooped up with Neosporin and banadged her for the first few days(until she wouldn't keep it on anymore). Her name is now Lucky.
