So a couple weeks ago, after two moths fluttered out of the pantry, I accepted the sad fact that we were INFESTED!!!!! Under my nose, disgusting pantry moths had been frolicking in our pancake mix, cavorting in the ground flax and galloping in the grits. Ewwwwww! Attack! As I was stuffing the whole wheat, flour, mixes, cornmeal, flax, grits, etc. in a garbage bag, it dawned on me that we have 30+ feathered family members that would love the wormy, mothy, eggy, cobwebby mess. So I shoved the lot into the garage until I had a couple free hours. Yesterday morning my daughters and I took the "ingredients" outside to the deck, grabbed 2 big bowls, old eggs, old oil, old pecans, nearly expired orange juice, expired Caltrate tablets, and dumped, mixed, stirred the mess into what resembled cornbread mix. We squished it into aluminum pans and my oldest daughter topped it off with sprigs of rosemary. We Had A Blast!!! : ) Baked at 325 for 30 minutes and I must say that what came out was almost......tempting.....excepting the egg shells sticking out. We could hardly wait until it cooled to test it out on our chickens. They demolished it! Even more exciting than meal worms....well of course because there were wormies in there, right? Our Jersey Giants were our best customers, lumbering all over the farm in our wake, looking for more handouts. Sooo.....If you ever become INFESTED with pantry moths, or you just have some old grain, consider whipping up a batch of PANTRY MOTH DELIGHT!

What a great use for all that food! Happy chickens, too!

I've had pantry moths a couple of times in my life. I found the pantry moth traps to be a great help, getting rid of the adults that can be lurking around the house after an infestation. Now I use a lot of glass or heavy plastic containers for ingredient storage. I also refrigerate or freeze some ingredients. It's always a headache if you bring in a food that's already infested. Good luck in your battle!

We'll have to give the traps a try. I currently have flour, cornmeal, etc in freezer. I think they may have come home in the dog biscuits, because that seemed to be the epicenter for activity.

I've done the same thing! I make it into porridge and give it to them on cold winter mornings!
Porridge is a great idea! I also have rice and beans that I may cook and mix with suet then press into cakes and freeze for winter, but the porridge would work for rice and beans too.

i love this!💗

Great idea! Looks delicious (well sort of).

I get a lot of pantry moths - I have tried the traps and they catch a load but not enough to really get rid of them.

I now keep pretty much all dried goods in the freezer. The good thing is that once you freeze items you can be sure they will be safe from moths as they are really in an airtight container. This means you can rotate items if you need freezer space. Right now my plain flour is back in the pantry because I need the freezer space for my bumper peach crop, but it will go back in the freezer once I have created some more space.
