Pasty butt

We need to know how this chick is behaving. Is it acting normal like the others? Or is the chick chirping non-stop, squatting often and straining to poop? What all are you feeding? Are you offering chick grit? Is this chick drinking a lot more water than the others?

You need to use warm compresses to try to soften the poop accumulation. You need to be able to see if this is a prolapse or if it's just stubborn poop crust. We are not able to tell this from a two dimensional photo. You must be our eyes and sense of touch and describe it after you are done cleaning it.
You seem to know a bit about this. Apologies; I’m biting on someone else’s thread, looking for answers. I just got 7 chicks this past Tuesday. One of my girls had pasty butt this morning. I soaked her bottom, cleaned her well (she was pretty impacted!) but after, it appeared she may have a slight prolapse? Hers is pink, nothing like the photos in this thread. Is it normal for them to have a bit of swelling after? As soon as the impacted stuff was out, she pooped and seemed SO happy. lol

Cleaning the paste off the vent can inflame the delicate tissue and cause swelling. Use a dab of cortisone cream on it.

Watch the chick carefully for a few days. If you see it squatting and straining to poop, you will need to give it a teaspoon of coconut oil. Break into pea size bits and freeze them, then slip each bit into the beak until you get all of it into the chick.

Constipated chicks will quickly get lethargic and appear droopy and their eyes will be dull and pained looking. Chirping while straining to poop is another sign of constipation.

Thank you for the info! As well as prompt response.

I’ve been stalking this site for months and had just joined prior to posting this. Did just make my own post after having posting this.

Thanks again!
